LIBRARY DATABASES

The Art Institute of Vancouver Library is proud to offer a collection of excellent databases and online resources that Visual Effects instructors and students can use. These resources are available for you to use at any of The Art Institute of Vancouver campuses or remotely from home for your study, research, work, and leisure needs.

**Please note that you must obtain the necessary Access USER IDs & Passwords from the library to use these resources.  Please drop by at any Art Institute of Vancouver Library location, call, or email the library staff to obtain the necessary information.**

  • Digital Tutors - Please contact library if you need information as to how to create a user account
  • Access over 11,000 video training tutorials on Maya, ZBrush, Soft Image, Photoshop, Illustrator, and more for your design and digital media needs. To create your personal account User ID: current Ai Vancouver students, faculty, and staff mus use their Ai email accounts (aii.edu / stu.aii.edu). Click on "Create an Account" and use the temporary password that is emailed to you by DT to log into your new account.
  • Firstcom Music
    UNLIMITED downloads and full access to Firstcom’s library of over 140,000 post production music tracks. Clips may be included in internet sharing, webcasts, postcasts, cellular and mobile devices and social networks; non-broadcast audio, video, digital media; corporate intranet, and/or closed circuit communications productions. Audio MUST NOT BE USED IN ANY PRODUCTION THAT IS SOLD!
  • Getty Images - If you have already signed-up for Getty Images, contact library for access codes. Otherwise, *Sign-up* for Getty Images.
    Getty Images User Guide (PDF)
    Over 500K high quality stock imagery. Students may download up to 50 high-resolution images and an unlimited number of low-resolution imagery per quarter. Images are for educational purposes only and using them for any commercial (even non-profit) or non-coursework or non-portfolio related purposes is strictly prohibited.
  • Grove's Dictionary of Art / Oxford Art Online
    A comprehensive collection of fine art and architecture images from many of the world's most prestigious art museums, and encyclopedia articles and entries from Groves and Oxford Reference.
  • Oxford Reference Online
    Contains about 100+ dictionary, language reference, and subject reference works and an expanding range of key titles from the acclaimed Oxford Companions Series, plus the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. Includes subject coverage from art & architecture to language & literature to science.
  • Proquest Bigchalk Electric Library
    ELibrary offers a broad range of full-text and multimedia content, including a digital archive of information sources of more than 2700 full-text periodicals, international newswires, classic books, maps, photographs, and major literary, art, and reference titles.

    Proquest Quick Reference Guide (PDF)
    One stop access to THOUSANDS of periodical magazine, newspaper, trade and scholarly publications including Proquest Research Library; ABI Complete which covers business, economics, product and competitive info, corporate and management techniques and strategies; National Newspapers 27 which provides articles from major regional dailies; and Proquest Psychology which encompasses a range of topics from over 500 leading psychology publications

    An electronic library collection of over 7800 e-books in a fully searchable database from Addison-Wesley, Peachpit Press, Adobe Press, and many other top technology publishers, covering Adobe, Maya, Photoshop, and much more.
  • Stash Online
    Online archive of over 120 hours of streamable commercials, music videos, broadcast design clips, virals, game cinematics, short films and Behind the Scenes features showcasing the best in animation, VFX, motion graphics and digital effects. Requires Quicktime. Free access on campus - click on IP-Based Login to the right on the home page - username email and password required for remote access.
