Student Loan Periods & Policies

Students must show a CURRENT student card to borrow items.

Maximum amount of materials to be on loan at one time - 19. Materials returned in the drop box after the library closes are checked in the next day (not including weekends).
     

If you want to hold onto your items longer and wish to avoid overdue charges, you can RENEW your items, via phone, email, or by visiting the library. Please click here to email you renewal request and include your name and the titles that you wish to renew. You will not be able to renew your items if:

  • the item(s) is on hold for someone else, or
  • you have renewed it the maximum number allowed (see above).

Library Services

The Art Institute of Vancouver Library provides many services that are designed to help students, staff, and faculty achieve their professional and educational goals and objects. Library services include:

  • Reference & Research Assistance
    The Librarians at Ai Vancouver are eager and qualified to help you with any and all your academic research needs. No question is too small or insignificant. If you need assistance finding something or understanding something, ask a librarian:
    • in person by visiting the library. Check out our hours and visit us today.
    • in person by making an appointment. Arrange to meet the librarian who can provide you personalized help with your research.
    • by phone. Call either of our library locations to speak to a librarian directly.
    • by email. Send your question to the librarian - remember to include your name and contact information!
  • Computer and Internet Access
    The library has 5 PC computers and 5 Macs, each of which is connected to the Internet and is loaded with Microsoft Office.
  • Photocopying and Printing
    A self-serve, black and white photocopier and printer is available at the main library.
  • Tutoring
    Tutoring is offered and facilitated by program departments. You can pick up a tutoring request form from the library. Forms must be signed and approved by your instructor and Academic Director. Some tutoring sessions are held in the library. The library offers assistance with English and writing resources, research help, and bibliographic instruction.
  • Bibliographic Instruction
  • Need help with an assignment? Don't know where to look or start? The library is here to help you with your research needs. Simply contact the library to book an appointment for yourself and up to 3 other friends. The librarians can show and teach you the steps to effectively search for, find, and evaluate the information that you need. Instructors: Bibliographic Instruction (BI) workshops can be customized and tailored for your classroom and specific teaching needs. Please contact the library at least 2 weeks before an intended BI workshop date.

  • Program Resource Guides
  • Program Resource Guides identify and illustrate specific resources pertaining to the various programs of study at the Art Institute of Vancouver. Each Program Resource Guide highlights books, electronic resources, and more that will help students with their school assignments. In addition, the library has created a variety of other supplementary resource guides on topics such as professional development, writing and research, and photography. Please see the librarian if you need any assistance with any of these guides.

  • Bibliographies
    The library can prepare bibliographies specifically tailored for classes, subjects, and assignments. Please contact the library with your request at least one week prior to the required due date. Further details can be obtained from the library.
  • Writing Resources & Help
    Please contact the library if you need help with your written assignment as we can assist you with editing, outline preparation, and more. Check our our Writing and Resources page - we recommend the OWL of Purdue website.
  • Study space for individual or group study
    With seating for 16 at 4 tables and 4 armchairs - the library is an ideal location for both students and faculty to work and study. The library also has two group study rooms (an additional 8 seats for studying) that students can use. These group study rooms can be booked for up to two hours/day (first come, first served) and patrons and groups can not book a room in advance for more than one time slot per day . To reserve a room in advance, simply call the library (778-373-8919), email the library, or visit the library and talk to staff and let us know when you wish to use a room, your name, contact phone number or email, an program of study.

Library Mission Statement

The Art Institute of Vancouver Library fully supports the Mission of the Art Institute of Vancouver and aims to support the learning, teaching, and information needs of students, staff, and faculty.

Our mission is to serve the learning community by providing open access to resources of various types, offering instruction in the effective utilization of these resources, and promoting intellectual curiosity and academic and professional growth through learning and research.

Our goal is to work in cooperation with faculty to help students develop the ability to find, evaluate, and use information to become independent life-long learners. In addition, we are committed to working in partnership with faculty, staff, and students to ensure the quality and relevance of the Library’s resources and provide the greatest access, availability and delivery according to their needs.
